This is the main problem with floating points operation per second: it's not that accurate. It's like having a hugely powerful motor in a car with lots of HP, but not taking into account, its wind resistance, weight, drivetrain etc.
in terms of raw processing power, 1 PS3 is 35 times faster than a PS2.
the PS3 is 200Gflops, and the ps2 is like 4,9. What's strange is that it is still faster then the wii. If I'm not mistaken the wii being something like 3,5.

I get your point but people who use both letter and numbers will find the above numbers useful for quick acces. But don't worry, I don't approve the removal of the numerical pad when you're all on numbers.
If I'm not mistaken with the PS3, it is because each update completely reinstalls the entire OS, thus reducing chances of the console being hacked.
Well, they blatantly copied the macbookpro's design. even the 17" laptop doesn't have the number pad. (I have the 15.4" model) Wht's cool however, it's aluminium finish.

the PS3, if I'm not mistaken only needs 64Mb of ran to run, though it doesn't always use it fully. and then it only uses ram when needed as opposed to a pc where each OS tool is always up and running resulting in huge comsuption.
But the PS3's ram is badly designed.
256 for the Cell(XDR) and 256 (GDDR3)for the RSX. no share possible, whereas the 360 has a unified 512.
So this is one of the main reasons why the Ps3 performed poorly with mulitplats in it...
no. nobody will want to switch right now, mainly because of DLC and the goddamn DRM. About reselling old consoles and the HDD and the PSN's or XBL gamertags registered on the console's MAC/serial address. Next-gen will truly be a whore to switch to.
